Evan Stoker, Champion, Boys 16-18 division at FCWT junior golf tournament at Cog Hill

Evan Stoker, Boys 16-18 Champion, FCWT Cog Hill junior golf tournament

A delightful fall day in the Midwest allowed the Cog Hill junior golf tournament conducted by the FCWT to begin on time (unlike the opening round which experienced a bit of a  frost delay).  The Boys 16-18 division was a close contest after 18 holes of play, and not much changed on Sunday, other than the order on the leaderboard.  Michael Greenberg of Plymouth, MN (2012) began the day in the lead after an opening round of 77 that was highlighted by an ace on the 12th hole on Saturday.  Evan Stoker of Richmond, IN (2013) began the final round tied for 2nd place at 78.

Dylan Healey, 2nd place, Boys 16-18 at FCWT Cog Hill

Dylan Healey of Franklin, TN (2012) began the final round tied for 4th with two other players at 79.  All three made par on the first hole, then both Stoker and Greenberg made birdie on number 2.  Stoker then lost 2 strokes to the golf course on # 3 and # 4, while the other two made pars.  Healey, who was not in the final group with Stoker and Greenberg, was doing what he does best, playing his game.  On the 5th hole, he made a birdie, not aware of how the other two were playing.  By the 9th hole, both Stoker and Healey were even par for the day, while Greenberg had given 4 shots back to the course, and opened the door for both Stoker and Healey

Greenberg did get one stroke back on # 11 before giving up two more on # 16 and # 18.  He finished with a round of 77 to match his opening round.  It would be good enough for 3rd place.  Healey and Stoker each finished at +1 for the day (73) and thereby tied for Low Round.  Stoker won the Champion’s title by virtue of his opening round which was one stroke better than Healey.  A great day for junior golf at a place well known for its golf legacy.

David Snyder wins the Boys 13-15 division of the FCWT Cog Hill junior golf tournament

David Snyder, Boys 13-15 Champion

In the 13-15 division, former FCWT Player of Promise David Snyder of McAllen, TX (2016) proved true to his award.  Snyder posted a 77 on Sunday which along with his opening round of 75 gave him the title by 5 shots over Benjamin Albin, another seasoned FCWT veteran – even at 14!  Fourteen year old Snyder had 23 pars for the tournament and matched Albin for Low Round on Sunday.  Albin, who was playing in his first tournament of the season, finished one stroke ahead of Devan Schulert of Kingsville, ON (2014), who won last weekend at Purdue and finished T2 at Notre Dame.  Three Top 3s in three tournaments, sounds like an All-American award in the making.

Girls Golf Champion, Celia Kuenster at FCWT Cog Hill

Celia Kuenster, FCWT Girls Golf Champion at Cog Hill

FCWT Newcomer Celia Kuenster of Mendota Heights, MN (2014) held firm on Sunday, even though she said her putting on Saturday was better.  Her final round of 81 was enough to give her the title by 4 strokes over Rosanna Lederhausen of Hinsdale, IL (2013) Rosanna posted the Low Round on Sunday in the girls division and earned 2nd place in the tournament.  Miss Kuenster led the girls division in birdies with 4 for the tournament, while Rosanna led in pars with 26.  Harley Dubsky of Valparaiso, IN (2014), a veteran of the FCWT junior golf tour, finished in 3rd place.
