Eighteen year old Takashi Murayama of Okinawa, JAPAN (2013) fired an opening round of 2 under par on Saturday at the FCWT junior golf tournament at Highlands North Course at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL. Takashi, who is in his third season on the FCWT junior golf tour, has finished in the Top 3 three times, but has not yet won. On Sunday he will be looking for that first FCWT tournament win. Three players will start just one stroke back of Takashi at 70 (-1). Will Mason of Upper Arlington, OH (2013) is playing in his first FCWT tournament. Fifteen year old Matthew Marquez of TRINIDAD (2013) also opened with a 70. Matthew finished T7 earlier this season at TPC Tampa Bay. Sixteen year old Luis Enriquez of MEXICO who won three times last season at the 13-15 division level, also opened with a 70. Enriquez and Murayama both carded eagles on Saturday, while Mason led the division in pars with 17. Sixteen year old Jose Hernandez of Santo Domingo, DR (2013) will start in 5th place at 72. Four players are tied for 6th at 73: Maxime Blandin (2012), Jeffrey Heinicka, Enrique Jaramillo of COLOMBIA, and Eliott Azoulay of FRANCE (2013), who co-led this division in birdies on Saturday with 5. Two players are tied for 10th, yet are within 5 shots of the leader: Kento Ogimi of JAPAN and Jud Millhoun of OH (2013).
In the Boys 13-15 division, Salvador Rocha of MEXICO (2015), Vicente Benitez of MEXICO (2015) and Julian Rippert of GERMANY (2015) are co-leading at 73. Rocha is in his 2nd season on the Future Collegians World Tour. Benitez is in his first season, but played an earlier tournament at TPC Tampa Bay. Rippert is playing in his very first FCWT junior golf tournament. All three will be looking for their first FCWT win. They have a one stroke advantage over Camilo Mexen of MEXICO (2015). Thirteen year old Camilo, who led this division in pars with 14, is playing in his first FCWT tournament. Tiger Lee of CHINA (2015) will start in 5th place, 3 strokes back of the leaders. Tiger is in his 3rd season with the FCWT junior golf tour and is playing in his second tournament for 2011-2012. Two players are tied for 6th: Tyoto Furuya of GUAM (2016) and Evaristo Rubio of MEXICO (2015). They are 3 strokes back of the lead at +5. The Top 10 players are all within 5 shots of the lead.
In the Girls division, Kari Bellville of Granger, IN (2014) is leading by one stroke over Karen Arimoto of JAPAN (2015). Miss Bellville, 15, has three previous FCWT tournament wins during the last two seasons, but is playing in her first FCWT tournament of 2011-2012. Karen Arimoto, also 15, is playing in her first season on the FCWT, but already earned a 6th place finish at the TPC Tampa Bay tournament. Seventeen year old Yingzhou Yun of CHINA (2012) is in her 3rd season with the FCWT junior golf tour, and playing her first tournament of the season. Miss Bellville co-led the girls division in pars with 11, while Karen Arimoto played the par 5s under par for Saturday’s round. Caroline Quamme of McLean, VA (2013) will start Sunday’s round in 4th place after carding a 78 on Saturday. Nina Hwang of Wesley Chapel, FL (2012) and Seol Ri Lee of SOUTH KOREA (2015) will start tied for 5th at 80, 5 strokes back of the lead.
