FCWT Black Diamond Junior Golf Tournament: Final Recap

Truong tops Boys 13-15


At the end of Round One of the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) junior golf tournament at Black Diamond, there were four boys tied for the lead in the 13-15 division.  Round One of this tournament was played on the Ranch Course.  On Sunday, the players moved to the Quarry Course, where one of the main goals is to stay out of the Quarry.  Thirteen year old Anthony Truong of Vietnam (2016) was able to pull away from his co-leaders and earn his first FCWT junior golf tournament win.  Truong, the only co-leader paired in the next to last group, arrived in the scorer’s area with a solid round of 74.  When the last group posted their scores, Anthony‘s 74 proved to be the Low Round of the day and thus gave him his first FCWT victory.  His two-day total of 150 put him 4 strokes ahead of another overnight co-leader Priyanshu Singh of INDIA (2014) who finished in 2nd place.  The remaining two first round co-leaders, Albano Valentino and Jonathan MacDonald, finished tied for 3rd with Hasan Kurt of Turkey (2015)Truong led this division in birdies for the tournament with 5 while Singh posted 27 pars for the 36 holes.

Kang Conquers Quarry Course; earns 2nd FCWT title

Sunday’s Round at Black Diamond was delayed one hour and fifteen minutes due to frost, but then the sun warmed things into a beautiful day for golf.  In the Girls division, Olympia Kang led wire-to-wire to earn her second FCWT tournament win of the 2011-2012 season.  Olympia, 18, posted a 75 on both courses to win by 4 strokes over Seol Ri Lee, also of South KoreaMary Fran Hillow of Orlando, FL (2012) finished in 3rd place at 155.  Mary Fran and Olympia each carded 4 birdies for the tournament to lead the girls division.  Olympia and Seol and Emmy Martin of Tampa, FL (2014) each carded 22 pars for the 36 holes of golf.

Shao Shatters Quarry Course with a 3 under par

At the end of Round One, Jake Solomon of Ann Arbor, MI, was leading the Boys 16-19 division at 69.  On Sunday, after a frost delay of an hour and fifteen minutes, the players teed off on the Quarry Course for the final round.  After a chilly start, the sun warmed into a beautiful day for junior golf.  The low score of the day was posted by Jake Shuman of Needham, MA (2014)Jake’s four under par 68 moved him up the leaderboard to ultimately finish tied for 4th.  The second best score of the day was posted by Yongliang “Edwin” Shao of CHINA (2013).  Edwin fired a 3 under par 69 that included an eagle on the par 5, 9th hole.  He went on to play the back nine at 2 under for the round.  Edwin finished at 4 under par for the tournament (140) and earned his first Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) win.  Edwin carded a total of 9 birdies for the 36 holes of golf to lead this division.  Shuman‘s round of 68 gave him 7 birdies for the tournament which tied him with Won Jun Lee (2017), who has already won twice on the FCWT this season (TPC Tampa Bay and the University of Florida).  Lee moved into 2nd place on Sunday with a final round of 72, despite a 7 on the last hole.  First round leader Jake Solomon of Ann Arbor, MI, finished in 3rd place at 148.
