A beautiful day for junior golf at the Reunion Resort in Florida where the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) was conducting an East Coast tournament this weekend. The players began the final round of play at 7:45am and had another great day of tournament golf.
In the Boys 11-13 division, twelve year old Mac Boney of Jacksonville (2018) won his first FCWT tournament by posting a final round of 78 after an opening round of 87. He finished three strokes ahead of first round leader Peter MacDonald of Mississauga, Canada (2018). Third place finisher Robby Stockard of Naples, FL (2018) led this division in birdies with 3, while Boney led in pars with 21. Boney thanked his parents and his golf teacher, John Berardi, for their support.
Another student of Berardi’s, Charles Padial of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2014) won the Boys 13-15 division with rounds of 70-70-140. Padial also thanked his coach, his parents and God for his win. This was Padial’s second win of the season after winning at the FCWT tournament at TPC Sawgrass at the end of December. Padial started the day 4 strokes back of Thomas Schofield of Bridgetown, SCOTLAND (2014). Schofield fired an opening round of 6 under par 66. Schofield‘s round of 75 on Sunday allowed him to finish in 2nd place, earning his second Top 5 of the season. Albano Valentino of San Juan, Argentina (2013) finished in 3rd place at 144 after a final round of one under par 71. Schofield led this division in birdies for the 36 hole tournament with 12, while Padial and Valentino co-led in pars with 26 apiece.
In the Girls division, Laura Hendee of Tampa, FL (2012), who will play golf for the University of Miami this fall, went wire-to-wire for her first FCWT junior golf tournament win. Miss Hendee, 18, opened with a round of 71 that gave her a three stroke advantage as she started the final round. That lead helped her to hold off a charge by Lauren Riehle of Wesley Chapel, FL (2012) who earned the Low Round honors on Sunday with a final round of 72. Miss Riehle came up one shot short of Miss Hendee at 147, thus sharing the second place honors with Madison Lellyo of Windermere, FL (2014). Ailin Li of CHINA (2015), who led this division in birdies with 7 for the tournament, and Sabina Vilogorac of Switzerland (2012) finished tied for 5th at 149. Also finishing within 5 shots of the winner were Mia Zanghetti of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (2013) and Lauren Gros of ChampionsGate, FL (2014).
In the Boys 16-18 division, Sam Horsfield of Davenport, FL (2015) held off a charge from Jackson Stroup of Hudson, OH (2013) for his first FCWT tournament win. Horsfield, 15, opened with a 4 under par 68 on Saturday which gave him a 3 stroke advantage to start the final round. Stroup fired a 5 under par 67 on Sunday that put him at 139, 5 under par for the tournament. Fortunately for Horsfield, he also had a good final round. After a bogey on #4, Horsfield played sub-par golf and finished at 2 under for the day, 6 under for the tournament, just enough to edge out Stroup. The Low Round of the day went to Talin Rajendranath of Trinidad and Tobago, who fired a 6 under par 66 and finished tied for 10th on Sunday. Eighteen year old Jake Solomon finished 3rd for the second consecutive week with a tournament score of 141 (-3). Two other players finished under par for the tournament: Evan DeRoche of Key West, FL (2014) and Corey Eccles of Montreal, Quebec, Canada (2012). Erick Alonso of Haworth (2014), Nicholas Cavero of Valencia, Venezuela (2012) and Chad Stumpo of Newton, MA, finished at even par for the tournament at tied for 6th place.
