Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) plays inaugural tournament at Sandpiper: three’s a charm
The Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) conducted its first junior golf tournament at the Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara, CA, on Saturday, February 4, 2012. The Sandpiper Golf Course is located on the Pacific Coastline of California, thus offering beautiful vistas throughout the golf course. The players began teeing off at 8:00 am local time under sunny skies. The temperatures warmed into the mid to upper 60s making a beautiful day for February golf.
Boys 13-15 division: 3 co-lead at 75
In the Boys 13-15 division, three players are tied for the lead at 75 (+3): Jesse Goldstein of El Dorado Hills, CA (2014), Tyler Tsay of Encino, CA (2015), and Miguel Delgado of Novato, CA (2015). Goldstein finished 2nd at the FCWT junior golf tournament at TPC Las Vegas, Tsay is playing in his first FCWT junior golf tournament, and Miguel Delgado, in his 4th season on the FCWT junior golf tour, is playing in his first tournament of the season. Delgado and Tsay co-led in birdies on Saturday with 4 apiece. The threesome will be paired together for Sunday’s final round. Two strokes back of the co-leaders is Sam Orue of Westlake Village, CA (2016). Orue, 14, is playing in his first FCWT junior golf tournament. Another FCWT newcomer, Spencer Soosman of Westlake Village, CA (2016), will start in 5th place at 78, three strokes off the pace. Briggs Boss (2015) of nearby Santa Barbara and Tim de Silva of Palos Verdes Estates, CA (2014) are tied at 80 and in 6th place. Boss co-led in pars with Clayton Davis of Manhattan Beach, CA. Each had 11 for Saturday’s Round.
Girls division
In the Girls division,
Alex Sborov of Pleasanton, CA (2013) leads by 2 strokes after an opening round of 77. Miss Sborov is playing in her first FCWT junior golf tournament of the season. For Sunday’s final round, she will be paired with Drew Thomas of Oxnard, CA (2012). Miss Thomas led the girls division in birdies with 3 on Saturday. Starting in 3rd place will be Desiree Gillaspy of Santa Maria, CA (2014). Miss Gillaspy, along with several other young ladies, carded 9 pars for her opening round. Desiree‘s round of 81 puts her one stroke ahead of Xin Fang of Menlo Park (2013) and three strokes ahead of Erin Hong of Newport Coast (2012) and Katie Sborov of Pleasanton (2013), who are tied for 5th at 84.
Three tied at -1 in the Boys 16-19 division
The Boys 16-19 division has a trio of co-leaders at 1 under par.
Matthew Ashley of San Jose, CA (2013) was the first to post the sub-par round on Saturday. Several groups later
Blake Meek of Pasadena, CA (2013), who finished tied for second at the FCWT junior golf tournament at TPC Las Vegas, arrived in the scoring area with a one under par. Meek led this division in birdies with 5 on Saturday. Then in one of the final groups to score in the Boys 16-19 division,
Sean Berardi of Petaluma, CA (2013) joined them at 71. The threesome has a two stroke advantage over Will Strauss of La Jolla (2013) and a four shot lead over Drew McMillan of Reno (2012) and Dylan Mitchell of Breckenridge, CO (2013). Alex Ramsey of North Hollywood, CA (2012) and Sam Aronoff of Santa Monica, CA (2014) are tied for 7th place at 76, just 5 strokes back of the co-leaders.
