FCWT visits Doral’s Jim McLean Signature Golf Course
A beautiful day in South Florida for the opening round of the Jim McLean Doral junior golf tournament conducted by the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT).
Sixteen year old Ryan Borg of Ontario, CANADA (2013) took the lead in the Boys 16-19 division by firing a 3 under par 68 on Saturday. Borgonly carded one bogey during his 18 holes on the par 4, 13th hole on the Jim McLean Signature Course.
Seventeen year old Jackson Stroup of Hudson, OH (2013) will start Round Two in 2nd place on Sunday. Stroup was the only other sub-par round in this division on Saturday. Jackson finished at 2 under par 69. Two players are tied for 3rd place: Jack Smith of Knoxville, TN (2013) and Anthony Infante of Miami, FL (2013), both at even par 71. Liam Leahy of Calgary, CANADA (2012) and Vladimir Osipov of Moscow are currently tied for 5th place at 73. Three players carded an eagle on Saturday in the Boys 16-19 division: Scott Avery (2013), Ray Boone (2013) and Derek Yang of Taiwan. Eight players carded 4 birdies to co-lead this division, while Borg led in pars with 13. Twenty-two players are within 10 strokes of the leader with 36 holes of golf left to play.
In the Boys 13-15 division, there is a three-way tie for the lead.
Matt Newman of Parkland (2014),
Evan Grenus of Glastonbury, CT (2014) and
Matthew Naumec of Wilbraham, MA (2015) all opened with 75 on Saturday. Anthony Truong of Vietnam (2016) is just one stroke back of the co-leaders at 76. Tiger Dao of Vietnam (2017) is in 5th place, 3 strokes back of the co-leaders. Thirteen players are within 5 shots with two rounds of tournament golf left to play. Matt Newman led this division in pars with 15 while Hasan Kurt of Turkey (2015) and Mac Montagne of Lake Forest, IL (2015) each carded 3 birdies.
In the Girls 13-18 division,
Kari Bellville of Granger, IN (2014)is tied for the lead with
Ksenia Eremina of RUSSIA; both young ladies opened with a round of 75. Miss Bellville, 15, is looking for her second FCWT win of the season, having previously won the FCWT junior golf tournament at Championship Gate in November. Miss Eremina is playing in her first FCWT tournament. She is part of a contingency from the Russian National Team playing in this tournament. Another FCWT winner, Olympia Kang of Wesley Chapel, FL (2013) who dreams of professional golf is in the hunt. Miss Kang, 18, will start in third place on Sunday at 78. Sara Garmezy of Franklin, TN (2013) is only 5 strokes off the pace in 4th place. For Round One, Miss Belville led in birdies with 2, while Miss Eremina led in pars with 12.
Ben Reichert of East Amherst, NY (2016) carded a very solid round of 72 in the Boys 11-13 division to take the opening round lead. Thirteen year old Reichert is playing in his first FCWT junior golf tournament. He leads Miles Castoro of Fort Lauderdale, FL (2017) by 6 strokes with two rounds of tournament golf remaining. Castoro, also 13, is in his first season with the Future Collegians World Tour. Miles finished in 2nd place at the FCWT tournament at TPC Sawgrass in December. Eleven-year-old Teddy Tetak of SLOVAKIA (2018) will start in third place at 79, one stroke back of Castoro.
