The winds for the final round of the FCWT junior golf tournament at Classic Club were brutal: forty miles per hour most of the time. Saturday’s winds were 25 to 30 mph, but Sunday’s were worse.
Pereira captures first title in Boys 16-19 division
The conditions made it very tough for scoring as
Corey Pereira of Cameron Park, CA (2013) can attest. His round of 76 was the Low Round on Sunday, but it was enough to earn him the title. Pereira started Sunday’s round in second place, two strokes back of Round One leader
Alistair Docherty. Corey and Alistair each carded 6 birdies for the tournament to lead this division. For Corey, it was a well-deserved victory. Pereira has been consistently in the Top 10 this season in FCWT junior golf tournaments. He finished tied for second at TPC Las Vegas, tied for sixth place at Bayonet and Black, and then tied for fifth place at Sandpiper two weeks ago. The sixteen year old junior now joins the winner’s circle, and has earned an automatic exemption to the FCWT Tour Championship over Memorial Day weekend. Overnight leader Alistair Docherty of Vancouver, WA (2012) finished two strokes back of Pereira in second place.
Ryan Medhaug of Sisseton, SD (2013) finished in third place at 153, his best finish of the season.
Ackerman wire-to-wire for the win
In the Boys 13-15 division,
Derek Ackerman of Half Moon Bay, CA (2015) led wire-to-wire to earn his first FCWT junior golf tournament win. Ackerman led his division in pars for the 36-hole tournament with 20.
Benjamin Albin of Santa Fe, NM (2015) led in birdies with 5. Albin finished tied for 3rd place with
Connor Chesky of Saint Helena, CA (2016). This was Albin’s fourth Top 3 finish of the season. Chesky had three top five finishes in FCWT tournaments entering this event. Another very consistent player finished in 2nd place.
Nathan Zhao of Faribault, MN (2015) entered this tournament having finished in 6th place at Notre Dame and tied for fifth at Cog Hill. Look for a win from this young man in the near future. McKenzy Haber of La Quinta, CA (2014) finished in fifth place at 163, four strokes off the pace.
Fernandes earns first FCWT title
In the Boys 11-13 division,
Andrew Fernandes of Cerritos, CA (2016) led wire-to-wire to earn his first FCWT junior golf tournament. Fernandes, 13, led this division in pars with 17. John Pollock of Eugene, OR (2018) led in birdies with 3 and finished in second place.
Garrison grabs second FCWT tournament title
Sabrine Garrison of Calgary, CANADA (2014) led wire-to-wire at the FCWT junior golf tournament at Classic Club in California to earn her second FCWT tournament title of the season. Garrison, 15, has played in three FCWT junior golf tournaments this season and finished in the top three each time. At Mission Hills in December, Sabrine finished in second place. In January, she earned her first win at the Wigwam junior golf tournament. On Sunday, she added another win here at Classic Club while co-leading the field in pars with Brittany Whatley of Las Vegas, NV (2012) who finished in third place.
Drew Thomas of Oxnard, CA (2012) finished in second place, just three strokes back of Garrison while Jordan Chael of Overland Park, KS (2013), who led this division in birdies with 5, finished in 4th place, 5 strokes back of Miss Garrison.
