Four Under Par, 68, leads Boys 16-19: Carson and Mahood
Round One of the FCWT junior golf tournament at La Costa South is in the books. William Mahood of Oakville, Canada and Kit Carson of Galt, CA (2012) are co-leading the Boys 16-19 division after firing opening rounds of 4 under par 68. Eighteen-year-old Mahood played the back nine at 5 under par on Saturday, while leading this division in birdies with 7. Carson carded 6 birdies for his round of 68. Both young men will be looking for their first FCWT junior golf tournament win on Sunday. When the two tee it up for the final round on Sunday, they will be joined by Danny Ochoa of San Diego, CA (2013). Ochoa is the only other player to post a sub-par round on Saturday. Danny will start at one under par when the threesome tee off number 1 at 9:18 AM. Matthew Sterling of Galt, CA (2013) is 5 strokes back of the co-leaders and will start in 4th place.
The Boys 13-15 division also has co-leaders.
Jacob Solomon of Dublin, CA (2015) and Han Seop Lee of South Korea (2017) each fired a 74 on Saturday and lead the field by 2 strokes. Solomon has four Top 10 finishes this season including a 3rd place finish at the FCWT junior golf tournament at Bayonet in January. Lee, 14, is playing in his third FCWT tournament of the season. His best finish was tied for third at the FCWT Mission Hills tournament in December. Colton Gage of Vail, AZ (2015) is currently in third place at 76. Three players are tied for 4th at 77: Jesse Goldstein of El Dorado Hills, CA (2014), Michael Feagles of Scottsdale, AZ (2016), and Corey Eddings of Roseville (2014). The trio tied for seventh are also within striking distance. Jeg Coughlin III of Dublin, OH (2015), Jack Atwater of San Francisco, CA (2015), and Andrew Fernandes of Cerritos, CA (2016) are all within 4 strokes of the co-leaders. Lots of junior golf left in this tournament.
In the Girls division, Drew Thomas of Oxnard, CA (2012) will be looking for her first FCWT junior golf tournament win on Sunday. Drew finished in 2nd place in her last two FCWT tournaments: Sandpiper and Classic Club. She leads Crystal Wang of CA (2013) by one stroke. Hansol Koo of Hawaii (2014) will start two strokes back and in 3rd place. Haley Moore of Escondido, CA (2016), who won at the FCWT Tucson and Mission Hills in December, and Panda Kahn of Carlsbad (2013) are tied for 4th place at 82 – still within striking distance.
