How do you spell Playoff? At the FCWT Red Tail tournament: 149
Clare wins on 6th playoff hole
A bit of a shake up took place during the final round of the FCWT junior golf tournament at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, MA. At the end of 36 holes of play, 5 young men were tied for the lead in the 16-19 division. Overnight co-leader Peter French of Franklin, MA (2012) was one of the five. Joining him were Jeffrey Lang of Lexington, MA (2013) who fired the Low Round on Sunday, a two under par 70, as did Patrick Frodigh of Westwood, MA (2013). (Frodigh finished T6 for the tournament). Two other players posted a final round score of 73 to finish at 149 for the tournament: John Clare of Camillus, NY (2013) and Ryan Tombs of Bedford, NH (2013). Jeff Tremblay’s closing round of 74 also allowed him to finish at 149, and tied for the lead. Tremblay was part of a four-way playoff at Tanglewood in March. In that tournament, he was victorious. Unfortunately for Tremblay, a repeat was not in store.
Lang, French and Tombs were all eliminated on the first playoff hole (# 10) with bogeys. Tremblay and Clare returned to the 10th tee and each made a par. On to the 11th where they each made par. Pars continued to prevail on the 12th and 13th holes. Finally on the tough par 4, 14th hole, John Clare‘s par was too much for Tremblay who made bogey.
