FCWT Junior Golf Tournament: World Woods Pine Barrens Round One

Payton Taylor leads Boys division at FCWT World Woods

Payton Taylor of Vero Beach, FL (2014) fired a 4 under par 67 to open the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) Junior Golf Tournament at the World Woods Pine Barrens Golf CourseTaylor is playing in his first FCWT tournament.  The 16-year-old had an eagle on the par 5, 6th hole when he “holed” it from the fairway.  Payton said he hit a lot of greens and fairways on Saturday which helped him to score well.  Taylor leads Michael Boylan of Patterson, NV (2013) by one stroke. 

Boylan, who is in his first season playing FCWT tournaments, had his best finish so far at the Inverrary Golf Club in February when he finished T2.  His opening round of 68 is his best of the season.  He, too, will be looking to win on Sunday.  Boylan said that his driver was all over the place on Saturday, but his irons were good, and his putting was fantastic.   Richard Donegan of Okeechobee, FL (2012), who is tied for 2nd place, won the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament at Mission Inn in February.  Donegan and Jessel Mohammed of Trinidad (2012) are just 4 strokes back of the lead.  Mohammed signed a NLI with @FlaglerCollege on Thursday.  Four players are tied for 5th place overall, including Luis Garza of Mexico (2016) and Leonardo Coll of Fort Lauderdale, FL (2015)Garza and Coll are co-leading the Boys 13-15 level competition.

Karen Arimoto looks for 5th FCWT junior golf tournament win of the season

In the Girls division, Karen Arimoto of Japan (2015) fired a 5 under par 66.  Miss Arimoto will be looking for FCWT win # 5 on Sunday when she starts with a 5 stroke advantage over Yuka Kaijki, also of Japan (2014)Mai Dechathipat of Bangkok, Thailand (2015) is currently in 3rd place at 73.  All three young ladies are students at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.  Mai, 14, won the FCWT junior golf tournament at Eagle Creek in December.  Miss Arimoto’s FCWT wins this season were at the junior golf tournaments at Innisbrook, University of Florida, Mission Inn and Saddlebrook.
