Congratulations to the 2011-2012 Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) Academic Team
In 2004, the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) began recognizing the Academic achievements of its members with an Academic award. Each subsequent season the selected players met the challenge for Academic excellence. Players on this season’s team had standardized test scores in the Top 90% on the SAT, ACT, PSAT or other achievement tests and each received high recommendations from a teacher or academic adviser. This season’s FCWT Academic Award recipients are:
Michael Seijong Hong of Fullerton, CA (2012) attended Sunny Hills High School where he had an academic GPA of 5.00 (weighted). His total GPA was 4.80 (weighted). He ranked in the Top 5% of his class of 623. In December of 2011 he scored a perfect 800 on the Math section of the SAT. He has been awarded several volunteer, service and awards for excellence in his high school career. Michael said “During my 4-year high school life, it has been a constant challenge for me to keep balance among the golf, study and other extra curricular activities. Looking back over the past, I could manage time efficiently and effectively to achieve my goal to become a successful student-athlete.”
Nina Fairbairn of Orinda, CA (2013), attends The College Preparatory School of Oakland where she has an unweighted GPA of 4.0. Some of Nina’s achievements include raising $52,000 to build a school in Laos through Room to Read. In addition to earning high scores on the SAT, Nina initiated a program to teach underprivileged kids in elementary and middle school and volunteered almost every Friday for 3 hours.
Jeffrey Lang of Lexington, MA (2013) attends Lexington High School where he maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Jeffrey scored 790 on the writing section of the SAT. Jeffrey is a member of the National Honor’s Society and was a Special Award Winner at the Lexington High School Science Fair (2012). He scored a 5 on the AP Biology exam and a 770 on the SAT II Biology.
Andrew Buchanan of Los Altos Hills, CA (2013) attends Menlo School where he is on the Faculty Honors Honor Roll. Menlo School was recognized in a study done by the Wall Street Journal of high schools throughout the world as #22 for its academically rigorous program. Andrews surpassed 700 on both his Math and Writing score on the SAT. Andrew was also recognized as a FCWT Academic Award recipient in 2011.
Josh Wick of Upper Alington, OH (2013) attends Upper Arlington High School where he takes Advanced Placement and Honors’ courses in several disciplines. Josh achieved a grade point average of 3.78 in his 5th semester at Upper Arlington. His counselor said that Josh “has done an excellent job of balancing his golf pursuits with his academic demands. He does this with ease by learning efficient study habits and excellent time management skills.”
Lawrence Sam Nichaminof Brookville, PA (2012), who attended the IMG Pendleton School, scored above 700 in all three parts of the SAT: Reading, Math, and Writing. One of Sam’s teachers wrote: “Sam’s work in class was consistently focused and thorough. He has a natural proclivity towards analyzing literature and making connections.” Another wrote: “Mr. Nichamin provides a very positive role model for student athletes both graduating and those up and coming. He is never too busy to turn down one of his peers asking for help, never too busy that his attention and focus wander from practice . . .”
Angela Mentel of Columbus, OH (2012), who attends The Columbus School for Girls, had a cumulative GPA of 3.79 on a 4.0 scale. Her SAT scores were in the 92nd percentile or better for all three areas. Angela volunteers at Fore Hope, Ohio Domician University , Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Saint Catharine Catholic Church. Among her academic awards, in June 2011 she received the Vassar College Trophy which is awarded to that students who demonstrates outstanding scholarship, leading in the service of the school and good citizenship.
Hale Furey of Newport Beach, CA (2014) attends Corona del Mar High School. Hale has a cumulative 4.0 GPA while “taking the hardest course load offered at Corona del Mar High School” according to one of his recommendations. Hale tries to strike a balance between achieving success in school and in sports.
Spencer Savitz of Glencoe, IL (2013) attends New Trier High School where he has a 5.12 cumulative GPA on a 5.33 scale (unweighted 3.82 on a 4.0 scale). Spencer had a composite score of 35 on the ACT which is in the 99th percentile. He also earned an 800 (on a scale of 800) on the Math 2 SAT II subject test and a 750 (scale of 800) on the Physics SAT II Subject Test. Spencer’s adviser wrote “Spencer is a highly motivated, very successful, and incredibly accomplished student and person.”
Jack Smith of Knoxville, TN (2013) attends Webb School of Knoxville. Jack received a composite ACT score of 34 while achieving the 97th percentile or better in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science on the test. Jack’s Latin teacher wrote: “always his work is meticulous, well-thought out, accurate . . . “
Bailey Truesdell of Grand Blanc, MI (2012), attended Grand Blanc High School where he had a cumulative GPA of 4.093. He scored a 32 on the ACT while taking many rigorous AP and honors courses. Bailey was a 7 year member of the Future Collegians World Tour.
Austin Rendell of Winnetka, IL (2013) attends New Trier High School where he maintains a 3.73 (unweighted cumulative GPA). Austin’s Pre-Calculus teacher said that “Austin is an outstanding person who has displayed only the highest levels of integrity and character. . . . Austin has distinguished himself from other students because he is able to draw connections between topics that other students think are unrelated.”
