Boys 16-19 division: 11 players in contention for the Junior Golf Title
As the effects of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Sandy whipped the wind at Falcon’s Fire, the players battled through Round One on Saturday at the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament. In the Boys 16-19 division,
Takashi Murayama of Okinawa, JAPAN (2013) leads after carding the only sub-par round: two under par 70. Murayama, a student at Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, had his best finish of the season last year around this same time when he finished tied for 2nd at Innisbrook. Takashi leads four players who are tied for 2nd at even par 72:
Brock Drogosch of Windermere, FL (2013),
Rafael Barnoya of Guatemala (2014), John Clare of Camillus, NY (2013) and Won Jun Lee of Seoul, South Korea (2017). Lee won the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament at TPC of Tampa Bay in late September. Micha Brinkman of the Netherlands and Christian DiMarco of Longwood, FL (2014) are tied for 6th place at 73. Elliott Azoulay of Paris, FRANCE (2013), Thomas Henderson of sterling, MA (2013), and Max Rispler of Grand Rapids, MI (2014) will start in a tie for 8th at 74. Gonazalo Perez of the Dominican Republic (2014), who is in 11th, is just 5 strokes back of the lead. Micha Brinkman carded the only eagle on Saturday, while John Clare led in birdies with 4, and our leader Murayam, Won Jun Lee and Peng Yan co-led in pars with 14 apiece.
Velasco and Kim co-lead Girls division of the FCWT at Falcon’s Fire
In the Girls division a battle is brewing between
Alejandra Velasco of MEXICO (2013) and
Dylan Kim (2015). Velasco is a student at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. Miss Kim is a student at the CORE Golf Academy in Winter Garden, FL. Both young ladies opened with rounds of 2 under par 70 on Saturday. Alejandra is playing in her third season with the FCWT and looking for her first FCWT title. Miss Kim, 16, is playing in her first FCWT junior golf tournament. They lead Kari Bellville of Granger, IN (2014), who won three times last season on the FCWT, by five strokes. Alejandra led this division in birdies with 5, while Dylan led in pars with 14. Should be a great final round on Sunday.
Chesky leads Boys 13-15 division
Connor Chesky of Saint Helena, CA (2016) leads the Boys 13-15 division at the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) at Falcon’s Fire. Chesky opened with a round of even par 72. He is three strokes ahead of Walker Kirk of Lancaster, PA (2016) and Anthony Truong of Vietnam (2016) who are tied at 75. Alex Lee of West Linn, OR (2015), is at 76. Justin Kim of Winter Garden, FL (2016) and Alexander Fernandez of Windermere, FL (2016) are tied for 5th and five strokes off the pace.
Singer seeks first FCWT win
Twelve year old Matthew Singer of Colombia (2018) will be looking for his first win on Sunday in the Boys 11-13 division. Singer finished second at the FCWT at TPC of Tampa Bay last month. He leads by five strokes with 18 holes of tournament golf remaining.
