The Final Round of the FCWT Sandpiper 2016 in Santa Barbara, CA, saw several shake-ups on the leader board.

The “ayes” have it . . . no this time it was the “Hs.”
In the Boys 12-14 division, FCWT newcomer Billy Howenstein of Boulder, CO (2019) came from 2nd place to win his first FCWT tournament, guaranteeing him a spot in this year’s Tour Championship. Billy fired the Low Round in his division on Sunday when he posted a 76 to allowed him to finish 6 strokes better than Round One leader
Ryan Plodkowski of San Diego, CA (2022). Twelve-year-old Ryan took the lead on Saturday with a round of 79. He finished 2nd on Sunday ahead of
Charlie O’Donnell of Pacific Palisades, CA (2022). Jackson Huether of Tucson (2020) finished in 4th place. Billy and Ryan each carded 2 birdies for the weekend. Billy also carded 18 pars which led the Boys 12-14 division.
Girls Division: Hillary wins in a Playoff
In the Girls division, 13-year-old Charlotte Hillary of Cherry Hills Village (2020) took the early lead on Saturday with an opening round of 84. On Sunday, Vanessa Watkins of Pismo Beach, CA (2016) battled back and carded a round of 78 which forced a playoff. Charlotte made a par on the 10th hole (the first playoff hole) to seal her first FCWT tournament win. Annabelle Huether of Tucson (2018) finished in 3rd place at 170, 5 strokes back. Charlotte, Vanessa and Lauren von Thaden of Atherton (2017) co-led in birdies with 2 apiece for the tournament. Charlotte led in pars with 17.
Hansen Birdies Playoff hole to win Boys 15-19 division
On Saturday in the Boys 15-19 division at the FCWT junior golf tournament at Sandpiper,
Sam Yamauchi of Davis, CA (2016) fired an opening round of 69 to lead all scores. Andrew Hansen of Roseville was 5 back at 74. On Sunday Hansen posted a solid round of 72 that included 3 consecutive birdies on 16, 17, and 18,and forced a playoff with Sam, then made a birdie on the first playoff hole (#10) to win his first FCWT title. This is Andrew’s second Top 5 this month. Two weeks ago he finished tied for 4th at Silverado. Another player who has seen the top of the leaderboard a lot this season is
Max Meltzer who finished in 3rd place at 147, just one stroke back of the playoff. Three junior golfers finished tied for 4th place: Brian Stark of Kingsburg, CA (2019), Ryan DeCastilhos of Bend, OR and Charles Osborne of Reno, NV (2018). Ryan Vaughan of San Jose, CA (2017) earned Low Round honors with a final round of 2-under-par 70 on Sunday that allowed him to finish tied for 7th with Ryan Bailey of Houston, TX (2016). Bailey has three Top 3s this season and 4 Top 10s. Grant Leppek, who made an eagle on the par 5, 15th hole on Sunday finished in 9th place at 150 followed by Grant Fairbairn of Orinda, CA (2017) at 151.
