Highlights from the FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012 and some brief videos of FCWT Junior Golfers 2012. We hope these introductions help to give you a feel for the diversity of junior golfers who play the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT). These interviews were conducted at the FCWT 2012 Tour Championship at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012: Faces of the Future
The FCWT Faces of the Future award was established in 2005 to recognize the up and coming talent on the Future Collegians World Tour. Many players who have received this award go on to become All-FCWT recipients. The FCWT hopes to see this season’s honorees earn many other FCWT Awards in the future. This season’s FCWT Faces of the Future Award winners are:
FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012: Players of Promise
During the 2006-2007 season the FCWT added the Player of Promise award for the youngest age divisions. During the 2011-2012 season, three players have distinguished themselves in the Boys 11-13 division. With 4 wins, 3 wins, and 2 wins respectively this season, the FCWT Players of Promise for 2011-2012 are

FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012: Academic Team
In 2004, the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) began recognizing the Academic achievements of its members with an Academic award. Each subsequent season the selected players met the challenge for Academic excellence. Players on this season’s team had standardized test scores in the Top 90% on the SAT, ACT, PSAT or other achievement tests and each received high recommendations from a teacher or academic adviser. The members of the FCWT Academic Team for 2011-2012 are listed below.
Perfect 800 on SAT Math
Michael Seijong Hong of Fullerton, CA (2012) attended Sunny Hills High School where he had an academic GPA of 5.00 (weighted). His total GPA was 4.80 (weighted). He ranked in the Top 5% of his class of 623. In December of 2011 he scored a perfect 800 on the Math section of the SAT. He has been awarded several volunteer, service and awards for excellence in his high school career. Michael said “During my 4-year high school life, it has been a constant challenge for me to keep balance among the golf, study and other extra curricular activities. Looking back over the past, I could manage time efficiently and effectively to achieve my goal to become a successful student-athlete.”
Volunteering with Underprivileged Children
Nina Fairbairn of Orinda, CA (2013), attends The College Preparatory School of Oakland where she has an unweighted GPA of 4.0. Some of Nina’s achievements include raising $52,000 to build a school in Laos through Room to Read. In addition to earning high scores on the SAT, Nina initiated a program to teach underprivileged kids in elementary and middle school and volunteered almost every Friday for 3 hours.
Scored a 5 on AP Biology
Jeffrey Lang of Lexington, MA (2013) attends Lexington High School where he maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Lang scored 790 on the writing section of the SAT. He is a member of the National Honor’s Society and was a Special Award Winner at the Lexington High School Science Fair (2012). Jeffrey scored a 5 on the AP Biology exam and a 770 on the SAT II Biology.
700+ on both Math and Writing of SAT
Andrew Buchanan of Los Altos Hills, CA (2013) attends Menlo School where he is on the Faculty Honors Honor Roll. Menlo School was recognized in a study done by the Wall Street Journal of high schools throughout the world as #22 for its academically rigorous program. Andrews surpassed 700 on both his Math and Writing score on the SAT. Andrew was also recognized as a FCWT Academic Award recipient in 2011.
Multiple AP Classes
Josh Wick of Upper Alington, OH (2013) attends Upper Arlington High School where he takes Advanced Placement and Honors’ courses in several disciplines. Josh achieved a grade point average of 3.78 in his 5th semester at Upper Arlington. His counselor said that Josh “has done an excellent job of balancing his golf pursuits with his academic demands. He does this with ease by learning efficient study habits and excellent time management skills.”
Scored 700+ on all three parts of the SAT
Lawrence Sam Nichaminof Brookville, PA (2012), who attended the IMG Pendleton School, scored above 700 in all three parts of the SAT: Reading, Math, and Writing. One of Sam’s teachers wrote: “Sam’s work in class was consistently focused and thorough. He has a natural proclivity towards analyzing literature and making connections.” Another wrote: “Mr. Nichamin provides a very positive role model for student athletes both graduating and those up and coming. He is never too busy to turn down one of his peers asking for help, never too busy that his attention and focus wander from practice . . .”
Volunteers for Multiple Organizations
Angela Mentel of Columbus, OH (2012), who attends The Columbus School for Girls, had a cumulative GPA of 3.79 on a 4.0 scale. Her SAT scores were in the 92nd percentile or better for all three areas. Angela volunteers at Fore Hope, Ohio Domician University , Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Saint Catharine Catholic Church. Among her academic awards, in June 2011 she received the Vassar College Trophy which is awarded to that students who demonstrates outstanding scholarship, leading in the service of the school and good citizenship.
Hale Furey of Newport Beach, CA (2014) attends Corona del Mar High School. Furey has a cumulative 4.0 GPA while “taking the hardest course load offered at Corona del Mar High School” according to one of his recommendations. He tries to strike a balance between achieving success in school and in sports.
99th Percentile on ACT
Spencer Savitz of Glencoe, IL (2013) attends New Trier High School where he has a 5.12 cumulative GPA on a 5.33 scale (unweighted 3.82 on a 4.0 scale). Spencer had a composite score of 35 on the ACT which is in the 99th percentile. He also earned an 800 (on a scale of 800) on the Math 2 SAT II subject test and a 750 (scale of 800) on the Physics SAT II Subject Test. Spencer’s adviser wrote “Spencer is a highly motivated, very successful, and incredibly accomplished student and person.”
Does Meticulous Work
Jack Smith of Knoxville, TN (2013) attends Webb School of Knoxville. Jack received a composite ACT score of 34 while achieving the 97th percentile or better in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science on the test. Jack’s Latin teacher wrote: “always his work is meticulous, well-thought out, accurate . . . “
7 years playing FCWT
Bailey Truesdell of Grand Blanc, MI (2012), attended Grand Blanc High School where he had a cumulative GPA of 4.093. He scored a 32 on the ACT while taking many rigorous AP and honors courses. Bailey was a 7 year member of the Future Collegians World Tour.
Good Grades, Good Character
Austin Rendell of Winnetka, IL (2013) attends New Trier High School where he maintains a 3.73 (unweighted cumulative GPA). Austin’s Pre-Calculus teacher said that “Austin is an outstanding person who has displayed only the highest levels of integrity and character. . . . Austin has distinguished himself from other students because he is able to draw connections between topics that other students think are unrelated.”

FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012: For the Good of the Game
“For the Good of the Game” award
In 2004 the FCWT began selecting a player or players who represent the game of golf well under a variety of circumstances. The FCWT has presented these players with the “For the good of the game award”. Each year the FCWT staff reviews the nominees and then selects the young people who have consistently shown demeanor that has been fitting of a Champion. The young lady selected for this award has played in 25 FCWT tournaments during her four seasons as a member, while the young man selected is a first year FCWT player, but played in 11 tournaments. It gives the FCWT great pleasure to announce this year’s recipients of the FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAME award: Marissa Hinchman and Talin Rajandranath.
FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012: Boys 13-15 Players of the Year
On Friday night, May 25, 2012, the FCWT capped off its 2011-2012 season with its annual Awards Dinner. The event was attended by FCWT players, their families and several golf coaches. The awards given to the players represent the accomplishments of a season of hard work. Players were recognized for their academic achievement and their achievements on the golf course.
The Boys 13-15 division of the FCWT was balanced from coast-to-coast during the 2011-2012 season, so much so that three Players of the Year were selected in the Boys 13-15 division, one from the Western region, one from the Central Region and one from the Eastern Region. Each of these players won three FCWT junior golf tournaments during the 2011-2012 season.

John Patrick Murphy of Crossfield, AB, CANADA (2015) was playing in his rookie season on the FCWT. He started with a bang in November 2011, winning his first FCWT tournament at Tucson by 10 strokes over FCWT veteran Aaron Whalen of Ephrata, WA (2015). Murphy finished at 3 under par for the 54 hole tournament. From Tucson, Murphy moved to Grayhawk in December of 2011 and fired rounds of 71-68 to finish at 5 under par and win by eight strokes over Sean Carlon of Albuquerque, NM (2015).
In February 2012, Murphy took his game to the Southeast and played the FCWT junior golf tournament at Plantation Inn in Crystal River, FL. Once again Murphy finished under par for the tournament (-1) despite a tough final round of 78. In Murphy’s final FCWT junior golf tournament of the season he finished T6 at the Mission Hills Resort – Gary Player Course in April 2012.
These three young men join a distinguished group of players who have previously earned this award.

The FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012 announces the Girls Division 1st Team. During the 2011-2012 season, each young lady selected to the FCWT Girls 1st Team had more than one win. The FCWT Junior Golf Awards 2011-2012 announces the Boys 16-19 First Team. Earning multiple wins in the Boys 16-19 Division during the 2011-2012 season was quite a challenge.
