The weather was a major factor throughout the day in Round One of the FCWT junior golf tournament Silverado 2019 presented by FootJoy. When the earliest competitors arrived, the temperatures were in the 30s. By the time the first group of junior golfers teed off, the temperatures were in the 40s.

By late morning rain had begun to fall. After the first wave of rain stopped, the wind began to pick up, making it feel even colder than before.

Even with all of these obstacles, one young man fired an opening round of even par.

Junior Golfers in the Top 5 in the Boys 15-19 Division

Jacob Van Roekel of El Dorado Hills, CA (2021) was the only player to post a black number for Saturday’s round of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Silverado 2019. He was in the final group of the day so he had to deal with all the challenging elements of the day. On Sunday, Jacob will start the final round with a two-stroke lead over two seniors who carded 74.

One of those seniors is Connor Motherway of Reno, NV (2019).

Connor played the front nine at even par (35). Then he made the turn and ran into some trouble on #12. He carded a 39 (+2) on the back nine for his 74.

Daniel Sheedy of San Mateo, CA (2019) also carded a 74 on Saturday. Sheedy posted 36-38 for his 74. Connor and Daniel will be paired with Jacob for the final round on Sunday.

Cameron Keith of Alamo, CA (2022) is one of 8 junior golfers who carded a 77 on Saturday. These players are 5 shots back of the lead and share 7th place.

Another player who shot 77 is Kyle Kuest. Kuest had an unusual round on Saturday. He made a 10 on the 13th hole and is still in the hunt at the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Silverado 2019. A good lesson to all junior golfers in focusing on the next shot, not the last one.

He also won the Boys 12-14 at Half Moon Bay last season. Colin will be looking to join the winner’s circle on Sunday. He will start the final round with a 5 shot advantage over Ishaan Sen of San Ramon, CA (2022).
