The FCWT Junior Golf Tournament MetroWest 2019 took place March 16-17, 2019. Junior golfers played 36 holes of stroke play at MetroWest Golf Club in Orlando, FL. This is one of the FCWT junior golf tournaments on the 2018-2019 schedule.
Final Round of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament MetroWest 2019
Khai Buttner of East Boston, MA (2020) came from 4 shots back to win the Boys 15-19 division of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament MetroWest 2019.
Buttner carded an opening round of 76 on Saturday. He began the final round in 2nd place, 4 strokes back of Round One leader Agustin Yiguerimian. Yiguerimian of Argentina (2020) posted an opening round of 72 on Saturday.
Khai started the day with a par on 1 and then a birdie on the second hole. The third hole gave him some trouble and he posted a double bogey, but he came back with 2 pars. He made the turn at 3 over par and then made a par on 10. After that he made his second birdie of the day on 11. Then he made 4 pars in a row and posted even for the back nine. Khai won by one shot over Tom Bellowmo of Deland, FL (2019).
Bellomo carded the Low Round in the Boys 15-19 division on Sunday, a 74. His 152 put him one stroke better than overnight leader Agustin Yiguerimian. Agustin finished in third place at 153. Dante Moser of Palm Beach Gardens, FL (2021) finished at 154, three strokes back of the Buttner. Jordie Cooper of Canada (2021) posted a 156 and finished in 5th place.
Boys 12-14 Division
Reggie Zhu of Winter Garden, FL (2023) had quite a weekend. He won his third FCWT junior golf tournament. Previously Zhu won at Disney in October and ChampionsGate in November. This weekend the 13-year-old from China added the title for the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament MetroWest 2019 to his titles. On Sunday, Zhu fired his first bogey-free round in competition, a two-under-par 70.
Feanor Valaquenta also had a personal best on Sunday. He posted his lowest competitive round, a 74. Well done, guys, keep up the good work!
Zhang wins Girls FCWT Junior Golf Tournament MetroWest 2019
Yue Zhang of China (2019) fired an opening round of 69 on Saturday. She and Greer Valaquenta of Bradenton, FL (2018) began the final round as co-leaders of the Girls 15-19 division.
Miss Zhang began the final round with two pars followed by 2 birdies. Miss Valaquenta began with two bogeys followed by 2 pars. That turned out to be the difference in their final positions. Yup made the turn at even par 36, while Greer, who did make a birdie on 8, made the turn at 40. On the back 9, Miss Zhang posted a one-over-par 37. Miss Valaquenta played solid on the back nine making 6 pars in a row and then a birdie on 16. Even with a bogey on 18, Greer still played the back nine at even par. But it was Miss Zhang who finished at 142, two-under-par for the tournament. Greer finished in 2nd place.
Congratulations to young Bridget Wilkie of Toronto, ON, Canada (2024) who posted rounds of 86-79-165. She finished the Final Round very strong making par on holes 13 -18. Watch for her over the next few years!
