Round One of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Red Tail 2019
Gabrielle Shieh made a bogey on her first hole of the day, #10. But she quickly turned that around with a birdie on 11. She went on to make par on the remaining holes of her first nine. After making the turn she made bogey on #1 and then another bogey on #3. Gabrielle followed that with a birdie on 4 and then made par the rest of the way to finish at 73. She leads Anne Walsh of Jamaica Plain, MA (2020) by 5 shots.
Miss Walsh carded 40-38 with one tough hole, #7 where she made a triple bogey. She is 5 shots back of Miss Shieh as they prepare for tomorrow’s final round. Emily Nash of Luneneburg, MA (2019) and Caroline Schernecker of Brookline, MA (2020) share third place at 81.
O’Donnell leads Boys 15-19
Jack O’Donnell of Cohasset, MA (2020) fired a three-under-par 69 to lead all scores at the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Red Tail 2019. O’Donnell carded a 35 on the back nine and then a 34 on the front on Saturday. His only bogey was on the par 4 14th hole. He has a one stroke advantage over Andrew Giacchetto of Canton, MA (2019) and Yeetang Kwok.
Yeetang teed off the front nine and posted a 35 with a bogey on 2 and two birdies on 4 and 8. Then he made the turn and made birdies on 10, 12 and 13 before giving two back to the course on 15 and 17 to post a second 35.
Andrew Giacchetto started on #10 on Saturday and made an eagle on his very first hole. It was the only eagle during Saturday’s round. After a birdie on 15 and two bogeys on 16 and 17, Andrew made the turn at 35. He also made a 35 on the front side with bogeys on 1 and 6 and birdies on 2, 4, and 9.
Max Hutter of Weston, MA (2021) will start in 4th place after an opening round of even par 72.
Nkhil Pande of Milton, MA (2021) will start in 5th. Pande had a bit of a rough start on the front nine and made the turn at 3-over-par. However, on the back nine he was bogey-free and made a birdie on 13 to post a 73. If he can keep that momentum going on Sunday, he could contend. Nikhil is 4 shots back of the lead.
In the Boys 12-14 division Adrian Curtis of Harvard, MA (2022) leads by 6 shots. Curtis opened with a 77 on Saturday. He led the Boys 12-14 division in birdies with 2. Alan Rose III of Weston, MA (2024) and Ethan Alexander of New Rochelle, NY (2022) share second place at 83.
