Round One of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Shingle Creek 2019

It was a very windy day in Central Florida. Junior golfers had to think about their strategy for every shot. In the Girls division of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament at Shingle Creek, Natalie Vo of San Jose, CA (2021) tried to make good decisions and it paid off. Miss Vo carded an opening round of 73 and leads by 11 heading into the final round. Natalie already has three wins this season. She won at Half Moon Bay in January, then at Monarch Bay in March. Earlier this month she won at Haggin Oaks. Fifteen-year-old Natalie leads Mackenzie McCormack of St. Johns, FL (2019). Ling (Sarah) Ji of China (2020) will start in third place at 90.

Boys Divisions

In the Boys 15-19 division of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Shingle Creek 2019, Cooper Lindberg of Calgary, AB, Canada (2021) leads by one shot. Cooper opened with a round of 75 (+3) on Saturday despite the windy conditions. He led in birdies with 5. On Sunday he will be paired with Shawn Sehra of Windsor, On, Canada (2021) and Callum McKay of Calgary, AB. Both junior golfers are on 76 and share 2nd place. Aaron Jarvis of Georgetown, Grand Cayman (2019) will start in 4th place at 77. Kiefer Bulau of King City, ON, Canada (2020) is currently 3 shots back of the lead at 78.

Bulau and Jarvis co-led in pars with 11 apiece. Cole Reister of Littleton, CO (2020) carded the only eagle for Saturday’s Round, a 3 on the par 5, 13th hole. Fourteen-year-old Feanor Valaquenta of Bradenton, FL (2022) opened with a round of 81 on Saturday. That is on par with his scoring average for the year (80.8). Valaquenta’s average continues to improve as he posts more and more rounds in the 70s. Play resumes at the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Shingle Creek 2019 at 7:30 am local time.
