Round One of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament GreatHorse 2019

The fall colors are in vivid bloom in New England at the beautiful GreatHorse Golf Club. Four junior golfers in the Boys 15-19 division played the course at even par during the opening round. Weston Jones of Sudbury, MA (2021) carded 35-37 with 4 birdies for his round of even par 72. John Broderick of Wellesley, MA (2022) carded 37-35 with 3 birdies on the day. Liam Gill of Wayland, MA (2021) fired a 34 on the front nine with 4 birdies plus a 38 on the back with 1 additional birdie. Daniel Brooks of Dudley, MA (20221) carded a 36-37 with 2 birdies on his front nine. These 4 young men will start the final round as co-leaders.

Two junior golfers are currently at 73 and share 5th place. Cameron Besaw of New Canaan, CT (2023), who started on the back nine, posted 37-36 with a birdie on each nine. Michael Walsh of Shelburne, VT (2020) carded 36-37 with 5 birdies for his round.

Three junior golfers in the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament GreatHorse 2019 share 7th place at 74. Michael Amari of Townsend, MA (2020) opened with 40 on the back nine, but then made the turn, made 3 birdies and posted a 34 on his final nine. Ethan Whitney of Westminster, MA (2021) carded 37-37 for his 4. Brian Glennon of Hingham, MA (2021) was out in 39, but then made the turn and made a birdie on 10 before making a string of 8 pars to come in with 35.

Rounding out the Top 10 are four junior golfers at 75. Jack Godin of Wilbraham, MA (2020) carded 37-38. Jake Ivan-Pal of Milford, CT (2021), started on the back nine with a 40, but then made the turn and posted a 35. James Robbins of North Andover, MA (2022) made three birdies on the front nine for an out score of 34, but ran into some trouble on the back and posted a 41. Finally, Colin Barrett carded 37-38 to finish at 75. With the Top 10 junior golfers with 3 shots of the lead, it should be a great final round.

Girls Division

Julia Imai of Brookline, MA (2024) leads the Girls division by 4 shots. Miss Imai carded 40-39 with 3 birdies on Saturday. She leads Olivia Williams of Cranston, RI (2025). Olivia carded 44 on the back nine, but then carded 39 on the front to finish at 83. She is 2 strokes ahead of Kylie Eaton of Greenville, RI (2023). Miss Eaton carded 44-41 and will start 6 shots back of the lead on Sunday. She leads Ava Spencer of Haverhill, MA (2022) by 3 shots.

Boys 12-14 Division

In the Boys 12-14 division of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament GreatHorse 2019, Ryan Downes of Longmeadow, MA (2024) opened with a 77. Downes made a birdie on the 1st hole and carded 38-39 for the day. He leads Ryan Chang of Lexington, MA (2024) by 3. Chang made 3 birdies during his Saturday round and carded 37-43. Ryan leads Bradley Sawka of Ellington, CT (2023) by 3 shots. Saw will start 6 shots back of the leader, but still within striking distance. A tough 4th hole resulted in a 9 on Sawka’s scorecard, but he made 5 consecutive pars on 10-14 and then a birdie on 15, so he could come on strong on Sunday.

Asher Katz of Ridgefield, CT (2028) held his own on Saturday. He made a birdie on the first hole and also made 6 pars on his way to 90. Well done, Asher!
