Final Round of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament GreatHorse 2019
What a beautiful fall weekend for a junior golf tournament in New England! The day began with some fog, but the sun was out and excitement was in the air for the Final Round of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament at GreatHorse 2019.
In the Boys 12-14 division, Ryan Downes of Longmeadow, MA (2024) went low and fired a final round of 71 (-1). Downes made two bogeys and two birdies on the back nine (his first nine). Then he made the turn and carded two birdies and only one bogey for his final nine. Ryan had 5 birdies for the tournament and led this division in pars with 22. He finished 16 strokes ahead of the field at +4 for the tournament.
Matthew Hua of Neeham, MA (2023) posted a 78 on Sunday and moved up 4 spots on the leaderboard to finish T2 with Ryan Chang.
Chang of Lexington, MA (2024) carded rounds of 80-84 and led this division in birdies with 6. Bradley Sawka of Ellington, CT (2023) finished in 4th place at 165, just one shot back of Hua and Chang.
Asher Katz of Ridgefield, CT (2028) posted another round of 90 and made his second birdie of the tournament on Sunday!
Julia Imai of Brookline, MA (2024) led wire-to-wire to win the Girls division. Miss Imai opened with a 79 on Saturday, then posted an 89 on Sunday to finish at 168. She led this division in birdies with 4 and also made 14 pars during the tournament.
Ava Spencer of Haverhill, MA (2022) moved up two spots on the leaderboard on Sunday. She carded 88-85 and finished T2 with Olivia Williams of Cranston, RI (2025). Kylie Eaton of Greenville, RI (2023) finished in 4th place at 175 and led this division in pars with 15.
Boys 15-19 Division FCWT Junior Golf Tournament GreatHorse 2019
After 36 holes of play in the Boys 15-19 division, Weston Jones of Sudbury, MA (2021) and John Broderick of Wellesley, MA (2022) remained tied. Jones and Broderick each opened with an even par 72 on Saturday. They began the final round as co-leaders with Liam Gill of Wayland, MA (2021) and Daniel Brooks of Dudley, MA (2021). On Sunday, Jones and Broderick each carded another round of even par 72 to finish at 144. The two headed to a playoff. The first playoff hole was #1. Each player carded a 5 so it was on to the 15th hole. Jones made a birdie 2, while Broderick made a 3. Interestingly, Jones made par on that hole during the Final Round and Broderick made a birdie. Just shows how well-matched these two young golfers are.
Ethan Whitney of Westminster, MA (201) moved up four spots on the leaderboard with a final round of 72, even par. Michael Walsh of Sheburne, VT (2020) moved up one spot to finish in 4th. Overnight co-leader Liam Gill finished in 5th place at 148. Reed Bodley of Sudbury, MA (2022) moved up 8 spots on Sunday with a final round of 73. He finished in a tie for 6th place with James Robbins of North Andover, MA (2022), who moved up 4 places on Sunday. Bodley and Robbins were 5 shots behind the winner.
