Final Round of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Papago 2019
Luke Strand of Mukilteo, WA (2023) won the Boys 12-14 division with rounds of 87-85. Strand carded one birdie during Round 2 on the par 4, 2nd hole. He also had 15 pars for the 36-hole tournament.
In the Girls division, Shelby Busker of Detroit Lakes, MN (2020) carded rounds of 79-78 for the win. Miss Busker began Sunday’s round one stroke back of the lead. On Sunday, she had a rough hole early on with a double bogey on number 2, but then after making the turn at 41 she played the back nine at 37 (+1). Shelby won by 2 shots over Ananda Zhai. Miss Zhai of Woodbury, MN (2022) improved her second round by 13 strokes. After opening with an 86 on Saturday, Ananda carded a 73 on Sunday (the lowest in the Girls division). She moved from 3rd to 2nd place and led the Girls division in birdies with 2. Shelby led in pars with 24.
Boys 15-19 Division
In the Boys 15-19 division of the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament Papago 2019, Cooper Markham of Maple Grove, MN (2020) won by 2 shots. Markham began the Final Round as a co-leader after an opening round of 71 (-1). On Sunday, he came on strong and fired a two-under-par 70 for the win. Markham made 4 pars than made bogey on the 5th hole. He got that stroke back with a birdie on 8 and made the turn at even par. Then on #11 he made his second bogey of the day. But he got hot and made four birdies in a row on 14, 15, 16 and 17, before finishing with a bogey on 18. He was in at 34, 70 overall and finished at three-under-par for the tournament.
Simon Kwon of Salt Lake City, UT (2021) also fired a 70 on Sunday. He moved up two spots on the leaderboard and finished in 2nd place, at -1 for the tournament. Owen Mullen of Nova Scotia, Canada (2021) finished at even par and in 3rd place.
Connor Reis of Claremont, CA (2021) fired a final round of 70 (-2), 10 strokes better than his opening round. He moved up 8 spots on the leaderboard and finished T7 overall.
Also noteworthy, Kadin Burkart of Eagan, MN (2021) improved his second round by 20 strokes. He opened with a 94, but didn’t give up. On Sunday he came back and posted a very solid 74!
